The Dallas Zoo was founded in 1888. It was the first zoo in the southwest region. The zoo covers 95 acres. It is the largest zoo in Texas, in terms of landmass. The zoo is home to thousands of animals and is involved in conservation and breeding programs for a number of endangered species. There is also a huge variety of family activities throughout the zoo. The Dallas Zoo is recognized for its outstanding Lacerte Family Children's Zoo, its Wilds of Africa exhibit, and its award-winning Jake L. Hamon Gorilla Conservation Research Center. |
